Stage 2 Pop & Bang Sportmode Catalyst off Big GainsBMW X6 M 4.4 MEVD17.2.H

The N63 is BMW’s well-known twin-turbocharged V8 4.4l petrol engine. This engine model has been in production from 2008 to the present. A key aspect of this engine is that the turbochargers are located ‘inside’ the engine’s V structure also called a “hot-vee” layout. As some of you already may know the N63 replaced BMW’s N62 natural aspirated engine. The N63 is truly an engine that can push boundaries a lot further and due to its supercharged nature, it can therefore deliver astonishing power.

The S63 is also a twin-turbocharged V8 4.4l petrol engine based on the same base design as the N63 engine. This S63 engine can be found in the highest model range from BMW and it’s being exclusively used by the M models, such as the X5 M, X6 M, M5, M6, and M8.

The continued development of the S63 shows us that BMW still cares for its high-end customers who want to have the best possible power results without sacrificing the quality and safety of this engine.

However, like every manufacturer, BMW is also bound to government and environmental restrictions. Therefore, even if BMW’s high-end engine models are aimed solely at power, they still need to be somehow in alignment with government and environmental standards.

Usually, BMW engines can deliver huge power increases with just a simple ECU tune. Because of this tuners really love to tweak these BMW engines. It’s by far one of the most popular platforms out there for engine tuners.

One of our customers came to us to stage 2 tune a S63 engine, to be precisely the S63B44T2. Furthermore, this customer also wanted pop and bangs mostly in sport mode.

After a couple of revisions, we ended up with huge power gains and working pop and bang solution in sport mode.

*Interesting find, after our customer replaced coils and sparkplugs the car started to continuously pop and bang (see video) from max RPM to 4000RPM. Also, due to this replacement no more misfiring occurred and the car feels stronger. The customer also added an octane booster to the tank to allow the car to take advantage of the full ignition advance for higher power (torque).
